- THE WIND CHIMES FELLIn Poetry·September 30, 2023One by one the wind chimes fell, Lay broken on the ground, Nevermore to sound, But, in memory of breezes From so long ago. Their breath no longer stirs, Yet, still can stir my ancient Inspiration even by their silenced sound, Echoing on in the many caverns of my mind. • Donovan Baldwin000
- THE PYRE WHERE PROPHETS GOIn Poetry·September 30, 2023If I, spaceman, alien from another planet, Descend in fire and preach love for all, Am I made welcome, love's message accepted, Believed, followed, or am I to be tossed Upon the pyre where all the other prophets go? - THE TRICK IS...In General Discussion·September 30, 2023The trick is to be able to tell the differences between question and idea, idea and thought, thought and answer, answer and solution, solution and solved... and know where you and the other wise men are on the journey. • Donovan Baldwin000
- I HAVE A PASSION FOR THE EARTHIn Poetry·September 30, 2023I have a passion for the earth For all the aspects of nature, Visiting as often as I can, Taking away visions and memories, Skies changing from blue to black, And back again, golden sun Rising and setting with silent bursts Of flaming colors brassy Pastels leaving their impressions On eyes and soul.... Of grassy fields, trees green In spring, bare and solemn In winter, flowers blooming Bright and gay, to die away, Before the heat of summer, Or blasts of winter winds... To listen to the songs of birds, The quacking of the ducks And even the inharmonious Screech of the wide winged heron, And the hidden owl in the dark... And for water, in all its forms From stream to river Pond and lake and even, To the cascading rain Which drums a tune that Makes the most hardened soul, Stop what they're doing, To watch a bit and hum along, With this symphony of nature. • Donovan Baldwin000
- WHAT DOES NOT KILL MEIn Advice and Articles·September 30, 2023I think one of the first, and longest lasting lessons I learned at Basic Combat Training, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in 1966, was, when you think you can't do any more, when you believe you've given all you've got... if you really want to there's more inside. Reach for it. Not going into details, but, trust me, I've been at Nietzsche's point, "What does not kill me makes me stronger," more than once. I don't know if it made me stronger, but, what I had learned in Basic Training was what got me through it. I realize there DOES come a point at which things such as the laws of physics, maximum velocity, and just plain time (my mother just died at 105), put an end to efforts and options, but, until then... buckle up buttercup and enjoy the ride. • Donovan Baldwin Note: Photo is NOT me, but of a soldier in Basic Combat Training with the U. S. Army at about the same time.000
