I've dipped and delved since half past twelve,
Within her silken pocket.
I swore I'd find, as was my mind,
Sweet Kitty Fisher's locket.
Showed her my key, said, "Come, now see..."
But, she chose to mock it.
What good do you, think THAT will do,
In searching for my locket?"
I said, "Sweet Kitty, dear so pretty,
If you'll help aim and cock it,
I'll probe the deep, and sweet dark keep,
For your long lost locket."
She said, "Dear boy, it's just a toy,
A pale and wandering rocket,
You'd best take care, if it goes in there,
Searching for my locket."
"Oh, Kitty dear, I think I'm near,
I think I've almost got it."
"Not this time, lad, but, don't be sad,
You almost found my locket."
Then, with a smile, "Just rest a while,
Put your toy back in its pocket.
Later try once more, a different door,
And, I'm sure you'll find my locket.

I have read that the tune, "Yankee Doodle" may have come from an older song, Kitty Fisher's Locket. I could not find the words, although there were references to a courtesan in the English court, Kitty Locket, or Kitty Fisher.
