They posted a recipe from the 1980’s saying to stuff a Thanksgiving Turkey with popcorn
Punchline - you’ll know when it’s done
When the popcorn blows the a#s off the bird.
Crude or funny? Take your pick.
But what this reminded me about is how we allowed ourselves to be more fun back then.
Here are some things that come to mind…
We used to take a full hour off from work to go to lunch and we would have beer or wine with our lunch.
We used to play practical jokes in the workplace… I’ve never seen anyone get hurt. It was all in good fun.
I never watched “The Office” and now I’ve been catching up with what most of you probably already know - it’s funny. But, it’s more than that. It’s sad.
It’s sad because work life is NOT like this any longer. Work colleagues used to be like family, but not today. I know nothing about my colleagues and asking would be considered a violation of their privacy.
Whatever… I’m not bitter. All this makes me glad to be at an age where I don’t have to please others.
Just some thoughts I felt like sharing.
Damn, Woman!!! I agree. Oh, nothing's perfect, and we're all different, but, just for an example, in 1974, three other professionals and I (the accountant), regional director, and two education professionals in Florida, visited a county educational office to give them a hand. On the way back to the office, we stopped at a restaurant, had an excellent meal, and everyone had a couple of beers. No big deal. In Germany, the workers would bring a briefcase to work and, mid-morning, lunch, mid-afternoon, would take out a bottle of beer (bier) and play dominos while they drank their bier. I watch TV shows from the 1970's and 1980's (Adam-12, for example), and, while there ARE things that I'm glad are different, there's the underlying fact that anyone acting like that today would be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.
