If you've never heard it,
Felt it,
Lived it,
How can I explain?
If it's been but badly played,
How can you understand,
The emotional grandeur?
Can I speak words that tell you
Of that magnificent ditch,
The Grand Canyon,
Or a child's excitement
On Christmas morning?
The birth of a child,
The death of a loved one.
You had to be there, they say.
At the coming of dawn,
The slow descent of
The burning sun into
The cold dark sea,
The swell of the music,
Sweeping the audience
Silently away...
The proud gasp as
She steps upon the stage,
Resplendent in her tutu,
Her first pirouette,
The ecstasy on her face at
Her first grand jeté,
Before the crowd,
Flushed cheeks and
Proud smile saying
She knows you are watching...
I remember so many,
But for others...
You had to be there.
